This year’s Raise the Woof featured pets are extra special—both were the first “babies” in their families, paving the way for growing households full of fur and love (and a few human additions, too!).

On the left is Talula, the striking tuxedo cat with a confident gaze and a heart full of opinions. Talula was the very first pet adopted by Mission Animal Hospital board member Alexis Barber and her husband Nate. Since then, their family has blossomed into a joyful crew of four cats—Talula, Little L, Hops, and Brew—two dogs, Lola and Hue, and most recently, a baby human named Louis. But through it all, Talula has maintained her status as queen of the household, now especially loyal to Nate, who she shadows with feline devotion.

Next to her is Fonzie, a fluffy and friendly Pomsky (that’s Pomeranian and Husky for the uninitiated) with boundless enthusiasm and a charming lack of practical skills—except one: he’s an excellent ball catcher. Fonzie was the first “baby” of Mission board member Taylor Bennett and her husband Frankie. These days, Fonzie shares his home (and probably his toys) with his pup sibling Ziggy and three little humans, who are all part of his joyful pack.

Together, Talula and Fonzie represent the way our pets help build our families—from the very first cuddle to the chaos of full houses filled with fur and love.
