HISTORY & FUTURE

As a veterinarian, Dr. Susan Miller had a front-row seat to the flaws in the veterinary industry in the U.S. that create barriers for families with pets, particularly urgent or emergency care, when they need it most.

We're Reimagining Veterinary Care

Dr. Miller founded Mission Animal Hospital in 2014 in Hopkins, Minnesota, with the idea to fundamentally shift the practice of veterinary medicine in favor of the pet owner and pets by removing the financial roadblocks, and reimagining how pet care can be practiced through the spectrum of care medicine. Mission Animal Hospital was born out of the idea to harness the power of both community and the value that pets add to our lives.

In 2015, Mission Animal Hospital moved to its new facility in Eden Prairie, and now operates one of the largest hospitals in the state, seeing nearly 25,000 pet visits each year, and helping over 6,500 families access veterinary care. Everything Mission Animal Hospital does is to provide accessible care to pets, to support the human-pet bond, and to make veterinary medicine a community resource.

This innovative nonprofit model of veterinary medicine has proven successful, and now, Dr. Miller’s vision is to build a Mission Animal Hospital in every major metropolitan area in the United States by 2050.

The Future: A Mission Animal Hospital in Every City

Access to veterinary care is a national urgent problem, and the need continues to grow. Mission's innovative nonprofit model of veterinary medicine has proven successful, and now, our goal is to build Mission Animal Hospital in every major metropolitan area in the United States by 2050.

We are working to create an affiliate program, where advocates and local champions for access to veterinary care can work with us to open a Mission Animal Hospital in their community. A national federation will support your local efforts and provide you with tools and resources to create a successful nonprofit hospital.

If you would like more information about opening a Mission Animal Hospital in your community, please contact Mission Development Director Christine Durand at christined@missionah.org.

Together, we can provide access to more than 500,000 pets each year.
