Meet Tom! Tom is one of Mission's Hospital Support Volunteers and has volunteered more than 12 hours. Life is busy, full of commitments, appointments, and errands. Oh MY! We know when a volunteer gives their time, it is a BIG deal. We are so thankful for every task they help us accomplish- from planning our galas to folding laundry. Every single thing helps us more our mission forward. So this month, we say a huge thank you to Tom for making the drive and giving his time to Mission.

Why did you choose Mission Animal Hospital for your volunteer experience?
I searched for affordable care for my cat, and ultimately didn’t go to Mission Animal Hospital because the drive was pretty far. My cat thinks my car is a litter box, so we keep drives to a minimum. Once I came inside for the volunteer orientation, I was amazed by the facility, the people, their mission, and I just wanted to help. Mission provides a great volunteer experience.
What's your favorite volunteer task in the hospital?
I like filling flush syringes and think I’m getting pretty good at it! Of course, the laundry doesn’t do itself, and I’ve definitely improved my towel folding ability.
What do you do when you're not volunteering here?
I work for a grant making organization at the state. I love my job and my team is amazing! I also ride bikes, ski…when there is snow! Pickleball is something I’m dabbling in.Â
Do you have any pets?
Ringo is my 18 year old long-hair grey tabby cat (kind of looks like a Norwegian Forst Cat). He has been with me since he was 8 weeks old and he’s big party of my family. He likes to eat, sleep (lots), daily brushing, and schedules. Everything has to happen according to his schedule or he just stares me.
Tell us about a pet that had a big impact on your life.
I grew up with a golden retriever named Buffy. She was my first pet. I was in elementary school when we got her and she loved to run around and jump in the leaves, played outside with my siblings and I, and swim in a nearby lake. On occasion, she would come home smelling so incredibly bad…like dead fish! My mom would make us wash her outside before she came in. Buffy was such a fun and adventurous dog, and I still remember the image of her walking up the path in our backyard after her daily adventures.

What's the most memorable moment in your time volunteering with Mission Animal Hospital?
I’m so impressed with the full spectrum services at Mission! Plus, they do a great job making volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated. I loved my holiday card signed by staff! It’s evident how important your work and patients are. I’m so happy volunteering at Mission Animal Hospital.
