Meet Ella, one of our newest Volunteer Spotlight stars! Since joining Mission Animal Hospital in February through the District 287 Transition Student program—which provides students with opportunities to build independence and gain valuable job skills—Ella has already dedicated 10 hours of her time to supporting our team and caring for the pets we serve. Her enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to jump in wherever needed have made an immediate impact. We’re so excited to have Ella as part of the Mission family and can’t wait to watch her continue to grow.

What first inspired you to volunteer with Mission Animal Hospital?
A teacher at my school informed me and help me get started.
As a brand-new volunteer, what do you find challenging or interesting about being in the hospital?
Starting something new for me was a little scary but I'm extremely happy with how things are going.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Mission volunteer community?
That I'm still helping and making an impact because staff rely on us to restock things, etc. And that everyone is always so friendly and welcoming.
How has volunteering at Mission impacted you personally or professionally?
It gets me thinking about other similar jobs and opportunities that could open up now that I'm involved in this.
Do you have a favorite task, shift, or area of the hospital you love helping with?
I enjoy filling syringes and cleaning rooms.
What do you wish more people knew about Mission Animal Hospital or the volunteer program?
That the staff there does whatever it takes to make sure you and your pet are comfortable. The staff aren't just doing their job they truly care about your pet.
I have always loved animals my whole life, I babysit animals a lot, walk dogs. I have 3 nieces that bring me such an incredible amount of joy, I love them all so much. I also have 3 pets! 2 cats 1 dog. Zoey is the oldest, she is 8. Coffee is the dog, she is 6. Milo is 4.
