Volunteer Spotlight: Beth G.

3 min read

Some volunteers bring their time, some bring their talents, and some—like Beth G.—bring a little bit of everything, including delicious treats! Since joining Mission in January, Beth has contributed more than 100 hours of volunteer service, sharing her skills, her kindness, and her love of baking with our team. Whether she’s showing up for her regularly scheduled shifts, treating staff to something sweet, or rolling up her sleeves after Raise the Woof to help tear down and load the U-Haul, Beth is always ready to jump in wherever she’s needed. Her willingness to go above and beyond embodies the heart of Mission’s volunteer community, and we’re so grateful for the time, talent, and extra sweetness she brings to everything she does. Read on to learn more about Beth and the many ways she makes Mission a better place!

What first inspired you to volunteer with Mission Animal Hospital? I was laid off from my job as a Sr Manager/Research Scientist earlier this year and was actively looking for volunteer opportunities to fill my newfound spare time. My husband told me about a co-worker who had taken their puppy to Mission for a chronic GI issue. His co-worker really appreciated the care their puppy received at Mission.... So, as a former Sr. Vet Tech, I jumped at the chance to go back to my veterinary roots and to support the important work at Mission!

Please share one of your favorite moments or memories from volunteering here.

While every shift is so rewarding and it's such a welcoming and collegial environment, attending the Mission Paw-loosa and Raise the Woof/Meow events really stand out - it was so heartwarming to see the sheer magnitude of support and appreciation for Mission and the amazing staff.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the Mission volunteer community?

The opportunity to support the amazing staff so they can focus their time and expertise caring for/supporting the critters and their people.

How has volunteering at Mission impacted you personally or professionally?

I really appreciate the opportunity to be surrounded by others who are so passionate about animal welfare and providing affordable veterinary care for beloved pets and their people. It is so inspiring and rewarding to volunteer and support Mission's mission!

Do you have a favorite task, shift, or area of the hospital you love helping with?

I think all of the shifts are important but do enjoy the variety of tasks in the ASP shifts- the team is always willing to teach me new things and equipment. I tend to get into a groove or just want to finish one more thing and before I know it, I've gone past the end of my shift :-)

What do you wish more people knew about Mission Animal Hospital or the volunteer program?

Just how flexible the program is and the variety of opportunities there are to support the hospital and staff. I learn something new at every shift!

Also- shout out to Megan for her management of such a successful program and her ever-present positive attitude! :-)

Tell us a little about yourself outside of Mission — pets, hobbies, fun facts, or anything that brings you joy!

-Pet: My dog Hudson is an 11-12 y/o pitty/lab mix (I haven't done genetic testing on him, but we think he's Purebred Awesome dog :).

-Hobbies: I enjoy gardening, mountain biking, wood carving, cooking/baking, and family time

-Fun Fact: I am an identical twin- our parents didn't know they were having twins until we arrived - 2 months early and 2.5 lbs each!
